Boloor (2023)
Producer and Director Helia Behrooz
Director of Photography: Farid Tahmasebi

Logline:
In the wake of the Taliban’s return to power in the summer of 2021, Bolour, a 19-year-old music instructor, was urged by her family to swiftly depart Afghanistan. The one cherished item she insisted on bringing with her was a Robab musical instrument that had been passed down to her from her father and grandfather.
Director Statement:
I exclusively create films that delve into subjects that resonate deeply with me or lead me on a journey of exploration. Filmmaking is not a profession for me at all; it is a deep-seated passion. It serves as a medium to challenge norms, shatter taboos, and spark dialogues on uncomfortable topics, as well as to venture into uncharted territories of self-discovery and understanding the world. My fascination lies in the intricacies of human psychology and behavior. As a female filmmaker from the Middle East, I carry a profound sense of duty to be genuine and impartial, to amplify the voices of marginalized communities, to assert my own narrative, and to advocate for those who have been silenced.
